“Music represents nature. Nature represents life. Jazz represents nature. Jazz is life.”
- Sonny Rollins
Inspired by Jazz, these pieces explore the connection between art/music and nature. Budding flowers are juxtaposed against images of Jazz greats; these ephemeral moments are frozen in time but the layered printing lends movement and rhythm to the static images, as the viewers’ eye jumps between the images.

A study of telecommunication networks, these pieces employ imagery of outmoded tools of communications, and typographic elements inspired by old American propaganda posters. Given the modern challenges created by new technologies (in particular: fake news, and the net neutrality repeal), these pieces ask the viewer to examine past and current vehicles of intelligence and question the channels through which information is relayed.

Employing imagery of plants and flowers, this series explores the beauty of nature and the plurality found within it. The simplicity of the linear shapes and curves are emphasized with close crops to the images, which are mirrored in the accompanying image of a man. Packaged with an organic white t-shirt.

These pieces tell a story by employing playful typographic representations of renown classical musicians on the classic white tee. Classical music is often associated with upper class society, but classical composers generally made little income from their compositions. While the white t-shirt in one’s wardrobe was once considered working class, it has transcended class to become a fashion stable. With time, the ink on the fabric will fade and take on new meaning.

This series features images layered over pages from a Chinese daily calendar. These calendars are traditionally used to determine auspicious dates for any major life event, including births/pregnancy, weddings/engagements, purchasing or moving to a new home, opening a new business, purchasing a new car, and travelling. An examination of the passage of time, these pieces take days of the year and ascribe new significance to each date by creating a diary of days past. Only once the day has passed and the page is torn from the calendar, is an image superimposed on the page; this creates a new page-a-day diary that emphasizes self-reflection and examination, which are critical precursors to embarking on any major life event.

An exploration of social values, these pieces play with type on sweats and packing and tissue paper from old sneakers. Inspired by 1980’s street fashion, these typographic elements are applied using rubber stamps and fabric ink, embracing the imperfections of the DIY aesthetic common to grassroots movements of the times.

This piece celebrates the black panther sigil, both as an icon for the civil rights movement and its cultural significance as a defensive animal totem in kung fu. The logo from the iconic American sportswear brand, Champion, is juxtaposed against the black panther graphic to force the viewer to recognize the past and present dichotomies within American history.
